Biography: Torres began playing soccer at age 7. Soon after he started playing 11 player outdoor soccer for a local team, Rayo 13. After a stellar season he tried out for Atletico and joined the youth team at age 11. At age 15 his team won the Nike Europe Cup; he was rated the best player in his age group. In 1999, he also signed his first contract with the club. In 2001, his UEFA Under-16 European Championship team won, and in 2002 his team won the UEFA Under-19 European Championship. Though Torres struggled at first, as Atletico was promoted to La Liga (Spanish 1st Division) he excelled. At age 17 Torres was the youngest player to play for Atletico Madrid. Two years later he became the captain. Torres spent 5 years playing for Atletico. During those 5 years he scored 75 goals; a feat bettered by only 3 players. At the end of the 05-06 season, he joined Liverpool despite interest from Chelsea. The transfer fee was €26.5 million. He has 15 EPL goals this year.
